What’s up, internet basketball junkie? I saw something the other day I had not ever seen before... a double lob BLOB If your imagination didn't kick in, here it is:
Now, I watch a lot of hoops... so to see something unique is few and far between these days. Replies started flooding in about this concept being more common than I had originally given it credit for. This is one of the things I love about this game... the old stuff cycles back into favor in different forms, and new stuff just keeps popping up. Now, into the Five we go! THE STARTING FIVE🥇 Best of the Week “The Octopus of Basketball”… good luck if you run into a well-coached Tandem 2-3 Zone Defense
PG - 🐻 800 coaches bookmarked “Bear Offense”… I promise I’m going to write a guide to it (I actually already started writing the guide but it’s not close to being finished) It’s an offense I used for 5 years and very much enjoyed building out and adding bells and whistles SG - 📺 My mother used to say “variety is the spice of life”… here’s some ways to work on your defense that are not the Shell Drill
SF - 🤯 Coach Steed posted a list of basketball coaching recommendations... I made THE LIST which was pretty cool... sandwiched right in between Tom Crean and Brad Stevens Coach Steed is a great follow for basketball education (and the occasional unhinged LeBron hater post)
C - 🏀 BLOBs tend to be over scouted because play stops as a cue to write something down That’s why it’s critical to mask your BLOBs using the same formation, like this 4-flat series OFF THE BENCH 📺 Coach Tagnon calls them "ping" or "throw ahead passes"... I call it "rocket" action... Either way, it's a great way to attack hard hedge or trap ball screen coverage 🐥 Looking for a unique defensive scheme that makes a statement? CLICK HERE 🎥 What am I working on? I just finished remastering “Wolfpack Defense” - it will be released before the end of the week to all the coaches that previously purchased the product.. Coach Kramer is making an upgrade to his "Trap & Scramble" product... I'm writing about defending star players, Bear Offense, the LMU System, and solution based practice concepts… I will continue to update more existing products with additional features (these updates will come for free if you already purchased the product receiving the upgrade) :60 TIME OUT (SPONSORS) Hardwood Texas - Become a member today! *Powerhouse Program Building booster club/school funding request letter: Powerhouse Template.pdf FEATURED FREEBIES POWERHOUSE PROGRAM BUILDING TIP: A powerful commitment you can make as a coach is to promise to lift your coaching peers up instead of pulling them down

What’s up, internet basketball junkie? Valencia finished 2nd in the EuroLeague regular season after being projected to finish 16th… and they did it without a superstar. They did it through their SYSTEM OF PLAY. Their offense led the league in scoring, built on pace, ball screens, and a design where everything connects - spacing, decisions, and relentless pressure. It’s one of the most complete team-driven systems in basketball right now. I just added a full Valencia film study (including a...
What’s up, internet basketball junkie? At least a dozen coaches have asked me for the document from this YouTube video on the Flexible 1-2-2 Defense: If you want it too, you can access it here for free: The_Red_Defense_Playbook.pdf The above video is an excerpt from the full stream with Coach Marty Dello (90+ minutes in length that includes game film) And for the an even deeper dive into the 1-2-2 3/4 court press and learning all the details of running it, check out the guide to the Jay...
What’s up, internet basketball junkie? I just added something new to the 1-3-1 Multiple Defense System - and it fits the identity of the product perfectly. The 1-3-1 system is built around one idea: breaking offensive rhythm with multiple looks out of the same structure. This new addition is exactly that. In a 22+ minute video, I broke down the Morphing “Lanes” 1-3-1 Zone Defense used by Fred Hoiberg at Nebraska - a change-of-pace defense that doesn’t pressure the ball… it takes away the next...
