What’s up, internet basketball junkie? To celebrate Father's Day, I wanted to share my favorite short story about my dad and my basketball origins.
My basketball journey started in a mud puddle. Yes, that’s right, a mud puddle.
My dad came home from work one day to find me playing in a mud puddle in our driveway, feeling pity that his dirty son had nothing better to do, he asked “do you want to go to a basketball camp?”
I replied, “sure,” and quickly followed that up with, “what’s a basketball camp?”
Turns out, basketball camp is much better than rolling around in the mud like a pig.
I was probably five years old, really too young to play organized basketball at the time. My dad pulled a few strings to get me into the basketball camp.
A love affair with the game blossomed.
Basketball has been common thread through my life with my as a connector with my dad. He took me to his men's league games when I was barely old enough to remember. I transferred schools to play basketball for him in high school. He traveled across the country to watch me play college basketball, rarely ever missing a game. And the first call I would make after any game I coached - good or bad. Present day we get to chat about the Cavs. All memories I cherish involving round ball and an orange rim. I have to much respect to the dads who shaped us, on and off the court... now into the Starting Five! THE STARTING FIVE🥇 Best of the Week Everyone loves a good horns set or twelve
