What’s up, internet basketball junkie? I’m 18+ hours into live streaming. Right now, I'm going live to X, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Facebook. Click on any of the platforms and turn on notifications to get updates for the streams (please) 😊 I’m experimenting, testing formats, and figuring out what hits best - but one thing is locked in: I’m going to keep cranking out long form basketball content for coaches. Multiple times per week. Consistent. Informative. Entertaining. At the moment, the show is living in three core formats:
(Click each link above to view a sample of that style) My goal is simple: dial in consistent formats, great guests, and recurring themes so you know exactly what you’re getting when you tune in. To start, I’ve opened up opportunities to stream with me as a guest inside the Powerhouse Program Building group… and we’re already rolling. I’ve got three live streams already scheduled this week. This thing is just getting started - and if you like talking hoops, coaching, and building programs the right way, you’re going to want to be around for what’s coming. Here's a sample from the film breakdown with Coach Remus Woods of Lutheran HS in Indianapolis: THE STARTING FIVE🥇 Best of the Week I've posted about this "moon" action many times through the years... I love the action because it has action on both sides of the court to occupy the help defense. But there's another reason why I like it (see below)...
PG - ✍️ And that reason is personal... see, my college basketball coach used it as a set play to feature ME twenty years ago. I did not remember this until I started watching my college tapes after getting them digitized last week:
SG - 📺 Forever and always the 1-3-1 half court trap is my favorite change of pace defense... not to mention, you can add all sorts of bells and whistles to it by morphing it into another defense or ratcheting the pressure up or down (these concepts are all in "The 1-3-1 Multiple Defense System")
SF - 🐥 3-2 Zone Defenses are easy to outnumber on the baseline, and generally there's not a lot of pressure on your ball handlers to discourage you from setting up your desired cuts and screens to the baseline. "The Encyclopedia of Zone Offense" is full of nuggets like this to help you master attacking zone defense:
PF - 💭 Tempo presses like Villanova's 1-2-2 Zone are great for forcing transition teams to slow down and work the ball If you watch the recording I did with Coach Remus Woods, you can see this tactic in action from the opposing team.
C - 📖 Running game tips from Coach Kramer, the author of "Relentless Transition"
OFF THE BENCH 📺 "Stomp" is a quick hit attack for 1-3-1 zones 🐥 What does a full system of play look like? And how do the schemes fit together? 🎥 What am I working on? Building an advanced coaching course... practicing live streaming (I have 15 live streams under my belt!)... Writing guides to a flexible 4-out offense system, conditioning without sprints, a 1-3-1 BLOB defense system... Continuing to work on the Bucky McMillan pressing system, a modern defensive strategies guide... upgrading 5-Out Upscreen Offense and Wave Offense (all upgrades come for FREE if you've already purchased the product) ❓Did you know you can get an ALL-ACCESS PASS to my store with 70+ detailed resources for basketball coaches? What’s up, internet basketball junkie? Before we talk about the BLOB of the year, let's talk about how to embarrass a 2-3 zone... It was against Jackson State... The zone didn't rotate right... They positioned too high... I do not care. What’s up, internet basketball junkie? For Christmas, my significant other did something wildly thoughtful (and slightly dangerous): she had all of my college game film transferred from dusty old VHS tapes into digital format. Which means you are now officially on notice - you will be forced to watch grainy clips of me “getting buckets” in baggy shorts with long hair from 20 years ago. Long hair that peaked in college and has been in the transfer portal ever since. But the best part wasn’t...
What’s up, internet basketball junkie? First off - thank you for all the birthday love this week. I officially crossed into the “veteran minimum” years of life, and your messages made me feel a lot less creaky than I probably should. Seriously… I appreciate every single one of you. Now onto something Coach Kramer and I are fired up about. We’ve been back in the studio grinding, filming new supplemental video features to elevate a few of our products. These upgrades add clarity, real-game...
